Strengthening Engineering Capacity In Africa

The World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) has launched the Engineering Capacity Building for Africa Programme (ECBAP), a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing Africa’s engineering ecosystem. Through collaborations with key stakeholders, including engineering regulatory bodies, academia, industry, and policymakers, ECBAP seeks to address skills gaps, promote professional development, and advance sustainable engineering solutions for the continent’s growth.

As part of this broader initiative, a significant partnership has been formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) among the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK), the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK), and the Chinese Society of Engineers (CSE). This MoU promotes cooperation in engineering technology and capacity building, fostering knowledge exchange between Kenyan and Chinese engineers. Key focus areas include professional training, enterprise visits, the mutual recognition of engineering competencies, and enhanced accreditation of engineering education programs.

By aligning China’s Belt and Road Initiative with Kenya’s Vision 2030, this collaboration also supports the broader goals of WFEO’s ECBAP, ensuring that African engineers are well-equipped to drive economic transformation and industrial development. Additionally, the MoU facilitates continuing professional development (CPD), strengthens engineering ethics, and encourages the career growth of young engineers.

The initiative underscores WFEO’s commitment to fostering a resilient and skilled engineering workforce, paving the way for Africa’s sustainable future through international collaboration and capacity building.
