Kenyan Delegation Engages FAEO President

June 11, 2026 – At the IEA Meetings in Cape town, the Principal Secretary, State Department for Roads, Eng. Joseph Mbugua, together with the Engineers Board of Kenya CEO/Registrar, held a high-level engagement with Eng. Refilwe Buthelezi of the Federation of African Engineering Organisations (FAEO) to discuss strengthening international collaboration and advancing harmonized standards in engineering education and professional practice. The discussions highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships, knowledge exchange and closer cooperation among signatories to the International Engineering Alliance (IEA) Accords and Agreements, with a shared focus on enhancing the quality, recognition and global competitiveness of engineering education and professional practice.

In acknowledging the unwavering support of Kenya’s State Department for Roads in the country’s journey towards attaining Full Signatory status under the Washington Accord, the FAEO President commended Kenya’s commitment to strengthening engineering education and professional standards.

The FAEO President further called upon African countries to work collectively towards compliance with the IEA Accords and Agreements, emphasising the importance of harmonised accreditation systems and competency frameworks in promoting internationally recognised engineering standards across the continent.

She also underscored the value of structured mentorship and capacity-building initiatives to strengthen institutional capabilities, enhance engineering skills and facilitate the seamless cross-border mobility of engineering professionals, ultimately contributing to Africa’s integration into the global engineering community
