Agency-Based Training Workshops Propel Surge in Professional Engineer Registrations

The Board has recorded remarkable success through its Agency-Based Training Workshops, an initiative designed to support Graduate Engineers in preparing professional examination reports. The program is a key component of EBK’s strategic goal to increase the number of registered Professional Engineers to 10,000 by 2028.

The workshops have delivered tangible results, with the Board registering 502 Professional Engineers in the 2024/25 financial year — the highest number ever recorded in a single year.

Speaking during previous workshops held in July and September, Registrar/CEO, Eng. Margaret Ogai, commended the participants and mentors for their dedication, noting that the sessions provide a practical and supportive environment for graduates to finalize and submit their professional reports under the guidance of seasoned engineers.

“The workshops offer hands-on mentorship that bridges the gap between academic preparation and professional practice. Through these reforms, EBK is making it easier for graduates to transition into registered professional engineers,” she said.

Past editions of the training have demonstrated strong outcomes, with nearly half of participants applying for registration, and a majority successfully approved. These results reflect the growing effectiveness of EBK’s structured mentorship and regulatory reforms.

The Agency-Based Training Workshops, alongside other initiatives, underscore EBK’s commitment to strengthening engineering capacity, enhancing professional standards, and building a sustainable pipeline of qualified engineers to drive Kenya’s industrial and infrastructure development.
