The Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) recently paid a courtesy visit to Mombasa County Governor H.E. Abdulswamad Nassir to discuss a collaborative framework aimed at improving engineering standards and compliance within the county.
During the meeting, EBK Chairman Eng. Erastus K. Mwongera emphasized the importance of stakeholder engagement and public awareness in enforcing regulatory standards. He highlighted the Board’s intensified site inspections and partnerships with regulators, MDAs, county governments, and security agencies to promote safety and accountability in engineering practice.
“We are committed to building engineering capacity through continuous training and stronger regulatory enforcement,” said Eng. Mwongera.
Registrar and CEO Eng. Margaret Ogai presented key findings from compliance audits and inspections conducted in September 2024. She identified critical gaps and assured the Governor of EBK’s full support in addressing them.
Governor Nassir welcomed the initiative, underscoring the need for strict adherence to engineering standards to prevent safety risks. He called for more accountability among building inspectors and pledged the County’s commitment to working closely with EBK. He also highlighted the need to streamline county systems for processing development permits and ensuring proper documentation.
