To become a mentor please read the Mentorship Guide and submit the GEIP Mentor Application Form. The purpose of this form is to assist the Capacity Building and Accreditation Directorate match you with the right intern and to develop your mentor profile.

Thank you for your interest to volunteer to be a mentor in the Graduate Engineers Internship Programme (GEIP).
A mentor under the GEIP is a practising professional engineer with registered consulting firm by the Board, and who is willing to help and guide the intern’s professional development. The expertise, knowledge, insight, wisdom, perspective, experience of the mentor is the source of learning in the GEIP mentorship relationship.

Profile of the GEIP Mentor

The following are preferred qualifications and qualities of the volunteer GEIP mentor; an individual who: Has academic qualifications in the technical areas identified under the GEIP programme, namely:

  1. Civil Engineering

  2. Mechanical Engineering

  3. Electrical Engineering

  4. Agricultural Engineering

  5. Aeronautical Engineering

  6. Chemical Engineering

  7. Mining Engineering

  8. Materials and Metallurgy Engineering

  9. Industrial Engineering

  10. Other related skills

  11. Has private or public sector experience, preferably in the mid to high level management/technical positions.

  12. Is willing to commit time for mentorship and focus on the mentee learning needs.

  13. Is open-minded, and able to provide positive feedback.

  14. Is able to give the intern the inside view of what really goes on in the “real world.”

  15. Has a mature approach to life (Note: Age is not a single, qualifying factor)

  16. Is a high achiever and models winning behaviours

  17. Is willing and able to spend own time, energy, and resources for the development and improvement of the intern.

  18. Is able to maintain high levels of confidentiality, social and professional ethics.

  19. Is a conscientious and law abiding citizen.
